Comerce on the Creek

Dubai Creek was the original centre of Dubai commerce, and today it still buzzes with boats plying their transport and cargo trades.

Wooden dhows docked by the water's edge, tightly stocked with everything from fruit and vegetables to televisions and cars.

The traders buy and sell in the wholesale souqs (markets) and when they are unloaded and loaded again, off they go.

The boats are bound for Iran, India, Pakistan and some other Asian countries, but mostly Iran, the UAE's neightbour across the Gulf.

Blake with his knapsack looks like he's ready to hitch a ride.

Personally, I don't want to be too close to one when it leaves the Creek. No unscheduled departures to Iran for me, thank you very much.

And I'd just as soon keep the family intact.
